Exploring Cascade Springs with Kids / Alpine, Utah

Welcome to Cascade Springs, a serene oasis in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains, perfect for family adventures.

A Family-Friendly Boardwalk Walk in the Wasatch Mountains

Cascade Springs, nestled in the Wasatch Mountains in Utah, is a hidden gem that beckons to both the young and the young at heart. Visiting in June, when the landscape is awash with vibrant greens and the air is filled with the sweet scent of blooming wildflowers, feels like stepping into a childhood memory. This natural oasis offers a lovely escape for families to enjoy an afternoon in nature.

The boardwalk trail at Cascade Springs is approximately half a mile long, perfect for little legs. There are three 15 min loops that surround the springs major flow areas. If you are interested in seeing the entire area, allow approximately 45 minutes to complete. The combination of wood and paved paths meander through the lush, spring-fed wetlands, offering visitors a close-up view of the beautiful cascades, clear pools, and diverse plant life. The trail's gentle pace and stunning scenery make it an enjoyable and manageable walk for even the littlest visitors. Dogs are welcome too, as long as they are kept on a leash.

We make it a point to return to Cascade Springs every year. The sound of water trickling over rocks, the sight of dragonflies darting above the springs, and the feel of a gentle breeze on your skin remind us to slow down and savor the moment. It’s a place where mindfulness comes naturally, children’s curiosity abounds, and the everyday hustle and bustle fade into the background.

Visitor Information

Cascade Springs is located off the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway, accessible from both American Fork Canyon and Provo Canyon. The journey itself is a scenic delight, offering breathtaking views at every turn. The day pass for visiting this spot is $6 per vehicle. The America the Beautiful Pass is also accepted.

How to get there

From Salt Lake City, take I-15 South to the Highland/Alpine exit (Exit 284). Follow UT-92 East through American Fork Canyon. As you drive along the Alpine Loop, you'll find signs guiding you to Cascade Springs. The road is well-maintained, but it’s always a good idea to check local conditions before you go.

Note: The Alpine Scenic Loop road is very narrow. It is not recommend to take vehicles longer then 30 feet. There are some switch backs that are very tight and you may experience problems.

Handicap/stroller Accessible

The lower trails at Cascade Springs are wheelchair accessible. The upper trails are more steep, and require climbing of some stairs.
